I've had a complicated relationship with metal for over 20 years, and have come to realize that my loyalty isn't necessarily to a genre or a set of rules as to what the music should have or sound like, but to qualities that are hard to define: a certain energy, a certain attitude, and a certain elegance, for lack of a better word. Hard to define, but when I hear it I'm home. That's what this record did for me.
